Professor Tissa Wijeratne and Professor Wolfgang Grisold have teamed up on an expert article for the World Brain Day "Move together to End Parkinson's Disease".

Prof. Teresinha Evangelista spoke about genetic therapy in neuromuscular disorders. She described the new genetic therapeutic approaches to the treatment of peripheral neuropathies, hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis and limb-girdle muscular dystrophy. She concluded by highlighting that gene therapies are likely irreversible, potentially providing sustained benefits but also carrying a possible risk of long-term adverse effects.

MDS-ES 8th Winter School for Young Neurologists at King’s College in London Almost 50 young neurologists and neurology residents from all over the world gathered in London from 7-9 February for the 8th Movement Disorder Society (MDS) Winter School for young neurologists. This well-attended and lively event featured two-and-half days of presentations, focused clinical examination rounds, video sessions and debate, driven by plenary sessions and two parallel workshops.

8th Winter Course on Movement Disorders 54th Turkish National Neurology Congress

The MDS-ES 2nd Summer School on Neuromodulation for Movement Disorders took place in Würzburg, Germany on September 6-8, 2018. The workshop was excellently directed by Professors Elena Moro and Jens Volkmann, with the collaboration of faculties of different countries, particularly from the Würzburg University. The course was held in a lovely and quiet building, the Burkardushaus Würzburg, in the heart of the city.

he Congress will begin each morning and afternoon with Plenary Sessions providing overviews of the phenomenology, pathophysiology, and current diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of various movement disorders. These sessions will be followed by Parallel Tracks, permitting participants to select specific diagnostic or therapeutic areas for more concentrated study.

The 9th Regional Teaching Course (RTC) in Sub-Saharan Africa took place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on November 8 – 11, 2017. The meeting was hosted by Prof. Jean Kabore, Head of the Neurological Department of the Yalgado Ouedrago Hospital of Ouagadougou together with Prof. Athanase Milogo, Head of the Neurology Department of the Sanou Sourou hospital in Bo Bo Dialasso and Prof. Christian Napon, head of the Neurology Department of the District Hospital of Bogodogo, Ouagadougou. The RTC took place at the National Hospital “Blaise Compaore”.

It is a pleasure to share with the European neurological community the outcome of the first teaching course for rare neurological diseases. The course took place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from 7th to 9th September 2017.
