As soon as the dramatic developments in our European fellow countries Italy, France, and Spain came to our attention, an emergency plan was deployed across the country. Besides coordinating logistics of allocating protection gear and respirators, all hospitals with the respective competence and resources in intensive care medicine have systematically ramped up their capacities.

Therefore, educational and funding systems exist in parallel, on the level of the regional political structure (state) where a specific university is localised, and on the level of funding by the central government and its Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Neurological News from Germany VII – The Growing Importance of Neurology and Brain Health
April 1, 2015As outlined in previous chapter VI of this series, the last three decades have seen a steadily growing number of neurologists (not only) in Germany. This continuing rise is certainly supported by the expanding diagnostic and therapeutic options for neurological diseases, but this alone wouldn’t suffice as an explanation. -
It took decades until neurology in Germany recovered from the brain drain caused by the Nazi regime during the 1930ies and 1940ies (see previous chapters III and IV of this series). Initially the German Neurological Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Neurologie, DGN) recovered only slowly until late in the last century when this development speeded up, coinciding with the re-unification of Germany.

President’s Page: Creating the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) and balancing the books: Management Committee meeting March 2012
April 1, 2012This is the first page of a monthly series. A President needs a strong team. We have an excellent Management Committee and dedicated office staff. In addition to ad hoc email communication and occasional teleconferences we meet twice a year - once at our annual congress and once at our Head Office in Vienna. We held our spring meeting on Saturday March 3rd in Vienna when a long agenda kept us out of the spring sunshine. The agenda covered the activities of each of our liaison, training and education and scientific committees, finance and future plans. The following are of special interest:
