In this paper, just published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the authors report neuropathological findings from autopsies of 18 consecutive patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection who died in a single teaching hospital between April 14 and April 29, 2020.

Neurological News from Norway III: Basic neuroscience
March 1, 2019Fridtjof Nansen (1861-1930) became famous as arctic explorer, politician, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. What is less known, is that Fridtjof Nansen was the first Norwegian to achieve a Ph.D. in brain research. He was curator at Bergen Museum, where he studied the nervous system in primitive animals. He published his thesis in 1887. He showed that nerve cells did not work as a syncytium, but as single cells within membranes, and with no direct connections between them. He was the first to formulate and give substantial proof for the neuron theory that later gave Santiago Ramon y Cajal and Camillo Golgi the Nobel Prize in 1906. In his thesis Nansen wrote: -

Structural brain abnormalities in the common epilepsies assessed in a worldwide ENIGMA study. Brain 2018;141:391-408. Epilepsy affects 0.6-1.5% of the population worldwide with one-third of patients being resistant to antiepileptic treatment. Nowadays epilepsy is considered a network disorder in which several structural changes are involved. -
We have the sad duty to communicate the death of Professor Eberhard Deisenhammer, a pioneer in neurology and a long-term secretary general and treasurer of the European Federation of Neurologic Societies.

Amsterdam 2017: RRFS hospital visit at VUmc
August 1, 2017Residents and research fellows discover the VUmc This year’s annual hospital visit on Sunday 25th of June 2017 brought 80 residents and research fellows from all over the world to the impressive VU University Medical Center Amsterdam (VUmc) located in the southwestern part of Amsterdam, close to the campus of VU University. The RRFS hospital visit was organised in collaboration with the Dutch Junior Neurology Association. -
Thanks to the EAN research fellowship, I have worked for one year in the lab of Prof. Edgar Meinl in Ludwig-Maximillian University Institute of Clinical Neuroimmunology in Munich. It was an invaluable experience for me both academically and socially.
