Neurology training in Europe varies considerably between countries. Results from a recent survey have been published in the European Journal of Neurology, highlighting similarities and differences between European Union (EU) countries, other European Economic Area countries, and Switzerland.

This proposal aims at developing an EAN Newsletter (EANN) including society as well as scientific information. No name is suggested at this point for this publication, and the future EAN Newsletter is referred to as EANN. We propose that the main frame of the EAN Newsletter will be already prepared in June 2014 for the 2nd semester of the year, in order to give to the new President and new Board plenty of time to decide whatever they want without the risk of discontinuation of the newsletter.

Do you shake hands with your patients? I think you should, usually. As a junior doctor I was impressed by the example of consultants who greeted their patients by shaking hands and adopted this as a life-long practice. I would not claim that shaking hands is diagnostically useful: the detection of extrapyramidal rigidity or myotonia is more likely to be made from special tests of tone than from the initial handshake.
