EAN President, Paul Boon, reviews the recent Brain Health Summit - which saw the attendance of Queen Mathilde of the Belgians - as well as a host of other brain health related activity.

Representatives from key organisations in neurology detailed their actions for a European advocacy in the brain space in a Studio Session held on the third day of EAN 2023.

The ETRN (European Training Requirements for Neurology) have been updated with the input of the European Union of Medical Specialists – Section of Neurology (UEMS-SN) and the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), including its Scientific Panels, and the support of education experts across Europe, as well as the patients’ representatives - European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA).

The annual European Board of Neurology Examination will be conducted for the 14th time this year and application is still open until 1 March!

For May 2020, we have selected: Lechien JR, Chiesa-Estomba CM, De Siati DR et al. Olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions as a clinical presentation of mild‑to‑moderate forms of the coronavirus disease (COVID‑19): a multicenter European study.

EAN addresses clinical neurology and needs to broaden its spectrum also towards clinical neuro-pediatrics. Kindly introduce the EPNS and its work to the readers of the EAN Pages Prof. Sameer Zuberi (SZ): Thank you. It is a special honour and a privilege for me to be elected as President of the EPNS. Our outgoing President, Lieven Lagae, deserves an enormous thank you from all of us— for guiding the society so ably.

Education is one of the key elements of the activities of the European Academy of Neurology. While the congress is well known to most of our members and European Neurologists the activities outside the congress are much less known. EAN has a special committee working on education[1] with Prof. Hannah Cock as the chair and the teaching course subcommittee under the leadership of Prof. Claudia Sommer. They are charged to develop an educational program including education for neurologists in training and advanced courses with the emphasis on training for the general neurologist. While the field of Neurology is getting increasingly broader it is of paramount importance to set a common ground for all neurologists which our education committee has carefully developed. For the congress educational programme, a five-year curriculum of the educational content covering all relevant topics has been developed over the past 3 years and parts of this plan are also applied to the educational activities outside the congress.
