The chief of the neurology department at Unna Evangelical Hospital, Prof. Zaza Katsarava ( Professor of Neurology at the University of Essen) kindly accepted my attendance at his department. The Evangelical Hospital in Unna is a multiprofile hospital, with a 75 bed inpatient department of Neurology.
EAN Congress 2025 relocated to HELSINKI due to UN summit (dates remain 21-24 June)

Due to unforeseen developments, the 11th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology has been relocated and will now be held in Helsinki on June 21-24, 2025.

January 9, 2018For January 2018, we have selected: Mendell JR, Al-Zaidy S, Shell R, et al. Single-dose gene-replacement therapy for spinal muscular atrophy. NEJM 2017;377:1713-1722. Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is caused by loss or dysfunction of the gene encoding survival motor neuron 1 protein (SMN1). Disease severity is also influenced by a second gene, SMN2, which can produce smaller amounts of this protein. -

Report of the 9th Regional Teaching Course on Neurology in Sub-Saharan Africa – Ougadougou, Burkina Faso, November 2017
January 1, 2018The 9th Regional Teaching Course (RTC) in Sub-Saharan Africa took place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on November 8 – 11, 2017. The meeting was hosted by Prof. Jean Kabore, Head of the Neurological Department of the Yalgado Ouedrago Hospital of Ouagadougou together with Prof. Athanase Milogo, Head of the Neurology Department of the Sanou Sourou hospital in Bo Bo Dialasso and Prof. Christian Napon, head of the Neurology Department of the District Hospital of Bogodogo, Ouagadougou. The RTC took place at the National Hospital “Blaise Compaore”. -

Jes Olesen (JO): Already as a medical student, I was interested in neurology. I thought at that time – and I still think so today – that the brain is by far the most interesting organ in a human being.
