The EAN adopted the GRADE system for the production of guidelines. Our Guideline production group would like to provide you with a short introduction as well as information on the courses.
The EAN considers the production of neurological guidelines a major commitment, as this is a primary tool to improve clinical practice in neurology. The EAN has adopted the GRADE system (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation) for guideline production since its foundation, thus keeping iup with many other Scientific Societies (see here). The major advantage of GRADE is to provide a homogeneous and transparent approach to the whole process of guideline creation and reporting. However, GRADE requires more training and resources to conduct detailed assessment of the evidence, such as systematic reviews. The EAN Scientific Committee is planning a training programme in the next years, including courses at the EAN Congresses, training to young neurologists, and assistance to task forces preparing guidelines through the EAN Guideline Production Group.
