Over 3000 neurologists, psychiatrists and neuroscientists have recently gathered together at the French Mediterranean coast. From 18th to 22nd of March, Nice hosted the 12th International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases and related Neurological Disorders (AD/PD 2015).
The day before the conference a Neuropathology Workshop and an Imaging Satellite were organised. In the next four days, scientific sessions covered a wide range of clinical and basic scientific topics, including genetics, disease mechanisms, biomarkers, neuroimaging and novel treatments. A special session on translating basic science to clinical work took also place every day.
Plenary lectures were scheduled in the morning, and were well attended. Two plenary lectures that could be of specially interest to practicing neurologists regarding Alzheimer’s disease were “Alzheimer’s disease: from preclinical states to dementia” and “How do we treat Alzheimer’s disease a decade before dementia?” Abstracts of the conference are available online.
The conference also gave plenty of opportunities for young scientists. Beside reduced fees and best abstract awards, they were provided with a special lounge. Young scientists could also meet with well-known professors during the everyday informal lunch session.
If you were not able attend AD/PD 2015 or would like to refresh your knowledge in this field of neurology, there will be an opportunity at the 1st EAN congress in Berlin. Two symposia and two teaching courses will be offered on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Teaching course 23 will focus on Parkinson’s disease treatment including levodopa and apomorphine pump infusions as well as on the deep brain stimulation. Teaching course 24 will cover atypical forms of Alzheimer’s disease.
