The mission of the WFN, as a UK registered charity, is to foster quality neurology and brain health worldwide, a goal it seeks to achieve by promoting global neurological education and training, with the emphasis placed firmly on under-resourced parts of the world.
World Brain Day (22 July 2014) by World Federation of Neurology
There are many days related to neurological diseases being celebrated by professional organizations in collaboration with World Health Organization, national organizations and local health ministries including World Stroke day, Epilepsy Day, Rabies Day etc. These days have proven to be extremely helpful in promoting public awareness and generating advocacy throughout the globe including developing Asian, African and Latin American countries. The World Federation of Neurology was established on July 22 1957. It was suggested by the Public Awareness and Advocacy Committee that 22 July 2014 should be celebrated as “World Brain Day”. This proposal was announced at WCN, Council of Delegates meeting on 22 September, 2013 and the proposal was received with a warm welcome by delegates. The Board of Trustees meeting in February 2014 endorsed this proposal as an annual activity.
The main objective of this day of the brain is to increase public awareness and promote advocacy related to brain health. The theme for this year’s campaign is “our brains- our future”.
Please plan your activities accordingly. Following are suggestions for member societies:
1. Arrange press conference, media briefing sessions etc. involving local media
2. Seminars, conferences, public awareness sessions
3. Presentations at local schools, colleges, universities
4. Poster, essay, drawing competitions
5. Collaborate with other organizations (Brain council, neuroscience societies, neurosurgery and psychiatry organizations, stroke and epilepsy society etc.)
6. Newspaper, magazine articles
The Public Awareness and Advocacy Committee is working on a design for a logo, brochure, poster, and banners with key messages. We will send you these materials as soon as they are ready for distribution.
The society with the most effective awareness and advocacy campaign will be acknowledged at WCN 2015 in Santiago de Chile..
The Neuropenews editors invite all national neurological societies to report their activities related to The World Brain Day here in Neuropenews.
