The most important congress for neurologists this year was the joint congress of the World Federation of Neurology (WCN) and the European Fedreation of Neurological Societies (EFNS) in Vienna, Austria, 21-26 September 2013. The 6400 participants from 135 countries had a busy scientific programme. During the congress, the European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees (EAYNT) offered interesting programmes for junior neurologist.
The main programme was arranged in cooperation with the International Working Group of Young Neurologists and Trainees (IWGYNT) and EAYNT. This was a free Teaching Course about the current situation of neurology training worldwide: „The future is ours! Meet the young neurologists worlwide.” with the listed presentations:
1. Walter Struhal: Activities of Young Neurologists Worldwide
2. Xenia Kobeleva: Training in neurology in Europe
3. Fustin Yepnijo: Training in neurology in Africa
4. Tissa Wijerante: Indian Ocean to Down Under: personal reflections on erly days of APAYNET
5. Surat Tanprawate: Past. present and future neurology training in South East Asia (SEA)
6. Man Mohan Mehndiratta: Structure of Neurology Training in the Indian Subcontinent
7. Johann Sellner: Scientific opportunities for Junior Neurologists in Europe
8. Rufus Akinyemi: Bench to Bedside: Lessons from a personal training experience between Nigerai and UK
The EAYNT hospital visit was organised to the Department of Neurology, at the Medical University of Vienna providing a better insight into facilities of a university clinic and neurology training in Austria. We would like to take this opportunity to thank for the kind invitation of Professor Eduard Auff, and for guidance and presentation of local trainees, especially Agnes Piker-Kees and Anna Grisold. Following the hospital visit the Young Neurologists were invited for a get-together dinner at a nice restaurant.
Thanks to the continuous cooperation and support of EFNS, EAYNT was present at a booth in the exhibition area during the congress and arranged a lottery. The main prize was an EAYNT travel grant of 200 EUR, the lucky winner is Idalia Nowak (Germany). The participants could also win useful tools for a young neurologist, including rexlex hammers (Kateryna Antonenko, Russia; Valeria Sajin, Germany; Christina Giavasi, Greece), penlights ( Rossella Spataro, Italy; Rayna Patel, UK) and an EAYNT t-shirt (Neyko Neykov, Bulgaria).
We are already looking forward to the Joint Congress of European Neurology in Istanbul, 2014!
