Professor Stephan Zierz, an innovator in the field of neurology and neuromuscular medicine, sadly passed away on April 22 at the age of 69. Zierz was appointed Chair of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine at Martin Luther University, Halle-Wittenberg in 1994, remaining in that position until his retirement in 2021.
He was a keen organiser of neuromuscular sessions at the annual congress of the German Neurological Society and at several European Academy of Neurology congresses. For many years he was also involved with the Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS), Section of Neurology, and he was an enthusiastic and faithful examiner for the European Board Exam in Neurology.
Stephan Zierz is sadly missed, but his legacy in European and international neuromuscular medicine will continue to inspire and guide future generations.
