by the EAN Guideline Production Group
The EAN considers the production of neurological guidelines one of its major aims, as they are tools for improving clinical practice in neurology. Guideline Taskforces (GLTFs), usually established by EAN Scientific & Coordinating Panels, are responsible for developing these guidelines.
The EAN Guideline Production Group (GPG) guides each GLTF through all the steps of the EAN guideline development procedure, from proposing a guideline topic to formatting and writing a protocol and developing the guideline itself.
The GPG developed an EAN Guideline Protocol Template in 2022, which is now in active use by GLTFs. This was then naturally followed by the development of an EAN Guideline Template. It is designed to assist the EAN Task Forces, involved in the development of the EAN Guidelines, in writing the final draft of a guideline document.
The manuscript template for the EAN guidelines was developed through a consensus process within the EAN Guideline Production Group (GPG), led by a core group of four people, with support from the EAN Head Office Scientific Department team, after conducting a comprehensive literature review searching for similar projects. The template is based on the following two documents: the EAN guideline protocol template produced in 2022 by the GPG and the template produced by the American Society of Hematology (Nieuwlaat R, Wiercioch W, Brozek JL, et al. How to write a guideline: a proposal for a manuscript template that supports the creation of trustworthy guidelines. Blood Adv. 2021;5(22):4721-4726).
You can find the new EAN Guideline Template on the ‘About EAN Guidelines for Neurologists’ page of our website in the Important Documents section on the right-hand side or download it via the button below.
