With great pleasure we report from our 25th EAN Spring School 2024, held once more in the beautiful venue of Steinschaler Dörfl in Lower Austria on 22-26 May 2024.
In the stunning environment of the mountains around the river Pielach we welcomed 117 participants from 27 different countries. Our participants came from Albania, Armenia, Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Lithuania, Moldova, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Our course took place in the traditional format – morning lectures for all participants, and afternoon workshops, in which the participants were divided into 3 groups. During the workshops they had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss topics with the speakers.
All participants were welcomed and speakers were introduced by Dr Martina Bočková, representing the Teaching Course Sub-Committee onsite.

The first day was devoted to the topic of movement disorders and organised in cooperation with the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. The lectures were given by Tove Henriksen (Copenhagen, Denmark), Rosa De Micco (Naples, Italy) and Rick Helmich (Nijmegen, the Netherlands). The speakers introduced the participants to the topics Parkinson’s disease: motor symptoms; Atypical Parkinsonism; and Non-parkinsonian tremor.
In the evening, everyone had the opportunity to see the Melk Monastery (UNESCO World Heritage Site) on a rock above the river Danube and enjoy dinner in a typical Austrian restaurant with musical entertainment.
The speakers on the second day were Alberto Vogrig (Udine, Italy), Sonja Hochmeister (Graz, Austria) and Barbara Willekens (Edegem, Belgium). This day was dedicated to the topic Neuroimmunology, and our faculty held lectures onParaneoplastic syndromes: pattern recognition and management; Autoimmune encephalitis: diagnosis and treatment; and Rare immune-mediated disorders of the central nervous system: red and green flags to guide you to the correct diagnosis.
The morning lectures finished with a presentation given by an RRFS (Resident and Research Fellow Section) representative, Valentino Rački (Rijeka, Croatia). He acquainted the participants with other possibilities and benefits that come with membership of this section.
The evening programme began with six selected participants who had the opportunity to present their case reports – Christian Alejandro Espinoza Vinces (Spain), Ayla Mehdiyeva (Finland), Beatrice Pancaldi (Italy), Krzysztof Smolik (Italy), Ines Albajar Gomez (Spain), and Martina Patera (Italy).
The best presentation was chosen by the faculty with the presenter receiving an award the day after. Martina Patera took the win with her presentation Relapsing/remitting delirium in the elderly: white matter matters and received a prize of free congress registration.

The third topic of our course was cerebral white matter diseases. We welcomed three speakers – Ettore Salsano (Milan, Italy), Hugh Markus (Cambridge, UK) and Tamar Akhvlediani (Tbilisi, Georgia). Their lectures focused on Adulthood Leukodystrophies: a focus on primary inherited white matter diseases, including those caused by metabolic disorders; Small vessels diseases – pitfalls and clues; and White matter changes associated with neuroinfections.

After a successful exam, the participants received their certificates of attendance and celebrated their success at a relaxed goodbye party.
