The Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) has formally noted the neurological Global Action Plan (GAP) and made a draft decision to adopt it at the 75th World Health Assembly in May 2022.
There remains some uncertainty about whether the term ‘neurological disorders’ might be replaced with the term ‘epilepsy and other neurological disorders’ within the plan, although Devora Kestel, WHO Mental Health Department Director (which includes the Brain Health unit) is reported to have defended the status quo, pointing out that the GAP already includes a chapter on epilepsy, as well as a broader set of actions.
A recording of the session in which the neurological action plan was discussed (along with the alcohol GAP), can be found here (EB150 – Session8, Item 7 g, h).
