Neurology Advocacy Talks will be a major feature of a new online TV channel, broadcast as part of the EAN 2021 Virtual Congress.
The new advocacy series, initiated by the EAN Board, will showcase the important role of neurology in healthcare to a wider audience, with a programme of five sessions on general brain health, the burden of neurological diseases, NeuroCOVID, the ONEurology campaign, and breakthroughs in neurology. The sessions will be streamed live via EAN’s virtual congress platform during the congress, but will later be made available to the general public on the academy’s Vimeo page.
“Our aim is to present neurology as one connecting discipline that is not focused on single diseases or organs,” said EAN President, Claudio Bassetti. “A huge proportion of the population suffer from neurological problems and most of the public have an awareness of these conditions, but issues such as neurological burden and wider costs are perhaps less well appreciated. We would like to contribute to a greater understanding, not only of the nature of neurology as a discipline that deals with a connection throughout the human body—the nervous system—but also of the nature of neurological conditions, which are interweaved throughout society.”
At the core of the programme are four detailed showcase sessions; one per day at 12:45, each featuring two renowned speakers focusing on a major topic:
Saturday – ‘Introduction on brain health in general’ will see EAN President, Claudio Bassetti joined by Matthias Endres of the Charité Medical University, Berlin.
Sunday – Ex-EAN President, Günther Deuschl and President-Elect, Paul Boon will team up to inform viewers about ‘the burden of neurological diseases’.
Monday – Donna Walsh or Joke Jaarsma of the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) will take a close look at EFNA and EAN’s joint project, the OneNeurology campaign aiming to unite and strengthen neurology-related groups, alongside David Vodusek, Chair of the EAN International Liaison Group.
Tuesday – ‘NeuroCOVID’ will be addressed by EAN Secretary General, Elena Moro and Co-Chair of the EAN Panel on Infectious Diseases, Johann Sellner.
In addition, eight shorter ‘Breakthroughs in Neurology’ sessions will give easily understandable insights into recent developments in typical patient practice, each looking at a different neurological issue, from headaches to dementia.
All of the sessions will be produced onsite in Vienna, with talks coming from a combination of speakers live in the studio and joining via Zoom.
