Dear Members of the EAN,
It is a great honour for me to introduce myself as the new EANpages Editor. I was fortunate to first join the e-communication team when the EAN was founded in 2015 as Resident and Research Fellows Section (RRFS) Delegate. It has been a great opportunity of professional and personal development to collaborate with Prof. Elena Moro, Prof. Tim J von Oertzen, Dr. Tom Jenkins and the head office to develop both the website and EANpages newsletter over the last 6 years, and to be involved in developing features such as paper of the month, breaking news, country of the month, and neurology updates. My colleague, Dr Tom Jenkins, who preceded me in this role has taken over from Prof Tim von Oertzen as Editor of the EAN website.
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the e-communication editorial team in collaboration with the newly formed EAN Core COVID-19 Task Force, have developed additional sections of EANpages dedicated to issues related to the pandemic. For example, we publish a COVID-19 paper of the month and monthly comprehensive updates regarding recent studies dedicated to the diagnosis and management of this infection, with a focus on its neurological manifestations. We report the experience of colleagues dealing with the virus on the front line across Europe and the world. EANpages reaches each member every month as a newsletter by email. Therefore, it represents an important link between European neurologists between the annual Congresses.
During the Congress, the e-communication editorial board works hard to summarise key sessions to give the chance to all members to be part of the meeting even if they had to miss part of it.
We represent the voice of our patients through publication of patients societies’ reports.
EANpages has sections dedicated to our partner societies: the European Brain Council (EBC) and EFNA (European Federation of Neurological Associations) because a key aim of EAN is to be connected to all neurologists and to advocate for excellence in neurological care.
In these last 6 years, the e-communication team has closely worked with the RRFS section to listen to the main educational needs of neurologists in training and to help deliver training resources. With this vision, many activities have been developed including “education corner” and “grand rounds”.
Seeing the birth of EANpages and watching it grow has given me a unique opportunity to learn about virtual communication from all members of the e-communication editorial board and all staff from head office. Therefore, I am ready now to apply my knowledge to keep improving and developing our newsletter, the platform where we should feel at home to ask questions and advise, share professional experiences and discuss difficult cases.
The EAN is the home of neurology. Our members make it so. We will work together for the best results in neurological practice.
