The EAN Scientific Panel on Sleep-wake disorders is glad to announce that Prof. Dr. Gert-Jan Lammers has recently been appointed at the Leiden University Medical Centre, department of Neurology to become a chair of Sleep disorders, in particular narcolepsy and related vigilance disturbances. Prof. Lammers is a neurologist, who has been involved in sleep research for over 20 years with the special focus in narcolepsy. At the university of Leiden professor will be responsible for creating the teaching block on sleep and sleep medicine, integrated into the medical curriculum, as well as for facilitating the quality of clinical care in sleep medicine and research on narcolepsy and related vigilance disturbances, the role of sleep in the evolvement and burden of other neurological disorders. This is an important step in strengthening the sleep-related direction in neurology.
