Elena Moro
Dear Colleagues,
It is such a pleasure for me to see how EAN has been continuously growing in terms of members, activities, engagements, promotion, and impact on several important activities inside the European Community.
Over the last years, EAN has gradually increased financial support to the Educational and the Scientific Committees to foster ongoing initiatives. As a few examples, EAN has strongly supported the production of EAN Guidelines, grants for both clinical and research fellowships, and educational annual schools. Moreover, funding has been allocated to support joint educational programmes with other allied societies in Europe and Africa. EAN communication has been expanded and reinforced with a new website and a new newsletter that facilitates an enjoyable, useful, productive and dynamic relationship between EAN members, related associations, and many other users. EAN has also allocated funds to promote the relationship with the European Parliament, for example by increasing the number of EAN staff in Brussels. Financial help has been dedicated for developing the “young members section” of EAN (the RRFS). Considerable investments have been allocated to improve the annual EAN congress, expanding the scientific programme, the quality and quantity of speakers and sessions, and increasing the number of dedicated personnel. Of course, this is only a small part of what the EAN and its members are doing…
All these activities have been possible because the EAN is financially healthy. This does not imply that EAN is a rich society or it is a business organisation by any means! However, EAN is able to maintain its administrative structure independently and can achieve the main goals for what it has been created. These are very important aspects of EAN for you to know. The availability of resources gives EAN the possibility to thrive, to grow, to engage, to expand, to foster and to invest in activities necessary to promote EAN’s objectives and the future of its members.
One of the most important reasons that EAN is financially healthy is because its members believe in and support their own society. Many EAN members are very active in the organisation, giving their time and skills for free to develop EAN activities. More importantly, EAN’s health depends on the participation of its members at the annual congress and all related activities. Participant numbers at the EAN annual congress have been gradually increasing, thus raising the interest of industry partners to further support our congresses.
Therefore, the active participation of all members to EAN activities represents the mainstay of EAN’s existence, survival and growth.
EAN is highly committed to financially supporting several other new projects aimed at expansion and innovation of neurological education and sciences, that I am sure we all want to see growing within the next years.
Thank you all for making EAN such a vibrant society, and for giving me the trust and privilege in my role as EAN Treasurer!
See you in Paris soon!
Faithfully,
Elena Moro
