Alzheimer Europe launches searchable web database of intercultural dementia care initiatives
Following the publication of its report on “The development of intercultural care and support for people with dementia from minority ethnic groups” in 2018, Alzheimer Europe has now launched an online repository of intercultural care initiatives, aimed at improving the situation of people with dementia and carers from minority ethnic backgrounds.
This searchable web database contains a wide variety of initiatives, covering care, support and diagnosis. These initiatives have been identified by the members of the expert working group that wrote the 2018 report and with the valuable input of the European Working Group of People with Dementia (EWGPWD).
The database will be further elaborated by the expert working group during 2019-2020, and the group will also turn its attention to influencing policy. If policy makers and high-level health and social care professionals are not convinced of the value and urgent need for intercultural care and support, and do not have a clear understanding of how to provide it, large sections of society will continue to receive inappropriate and inadequate dementia care and support. For this reason, Alzheimer Europe has decided to develop concise summaries of the most pertinent areas of its 2018 report, targeted at policy makers and at high-level health and social care professionals.
