SP Neurotraumatology met during recent EAN Congress in Amsterdam. Co-chairs Pieter Vos from the Netherlands and Oliver Kastrup from Germany welcomed members and introduced Dafin Muresanu from Romania, as a new liaison officer between the scientific committee and scientific panel. Dafin Muresanu is also a member of the SP Neurotraumatology and will increase the communication between the scientific committee and the panel.
Co-chairs and liaison officer emphasized how important it is for the panel to prepare teaching materials for the EAN webpage (Neurology Update, Breaking News, texts on neurological scales, historical papers and educational papers). Martin Rakusa, a sub-editor of EANpages and panel member from Slovenia, explained the process.
One of the most important tasks of scientific panels is preparing guidelines. To improve our knowledge, two members of our panel have participated at the EAN Science Workshop “How to develop a guideline for therapy“. The panel will focus on two guidelines over the next years. First guideline is on “Diffuse Axonal Injury in Moderate Severe TBI” in collaboration with the neurorehabilitation panel and a statistician. The coordinator of this guideline is Dafin Muresanu. The second guideline is on “Mild TBI and the postconcussion syndrome.” A concept outline of this guideline will be spread among interested panel members. The coordinator of this guideline is Pieter Vos.
We also review our activities at the EAN congresses. This year, SP Neurotraumatology organized a successful Symposium at EAN congress in Amsterdam on Mild Traumatic Brain Injury. Although, the programme committee did not approve any main topic or focused workshop on neurotraumatology for EAN congress in Lisbon, 2018, we will prepare new proposals for EAN congress in Oslo, 2019. We believe that neurotraumatology is an important part of clinical neurology which should always be presented at the main congress.
SP neurotraumatology members agreed with the scientific committee that it is important for young neurologists to participate and are active in the scientific panels. In this respect, we welcomed Mihai Ionescu, representative in our panel on behalf of the neurology residents. We also encouraged him to prepare a Neurology Update for EAN webpage. Co-chairs and members of the SP Neurotraumatolgy will help him with this task.
At the end, we started a “WhatsApp group” to enhance the communication between the panel members. If anyone is interested to participate please send an email to Pieter Vos (p.vos@slingeland.nl) with your mobile number.
