Prof. Günther Deuschl, President of the EAN and Prof. Meir Bialer, Chair of the ILAE-CEA are pleased to announce that:
EAN has joined International League against Epilepsy – Commission on European Affairs (ILAE-CEA) to promote optimal management of Epilepsy in Europe. ILAE-CEA The Commission on European Affairs (CEA) is elected by the European ILAE Chapters; its goal is to stimulate and co-ordinate all activities related to epilepsy and epileptology across Europe, in compliance with ILAE directives. CEA is responsible for organising the official regional ILAE Congress (European Congress of Epileptology).
This new collaboration aims at enhancing education as well as scientific endeavors, and building the critical mass of expertise to achieve excellence in Epilepsy treatment within clinical neurology in Europe. Jointly, the two organizations will be able to lobby more effectively in Brussels for the recognition of epilepsy and its treatment, and for strengthening funding for research in Europe.
To achieve these goals the two societies have agreed to collaborate on the following specific activities:
- Scientific Conferences: to establish joint sessions at each other’s meetings and other relevant conferences;
- Best Practice Guidelines: to nominate representatives for each other’s guidelines modules;
- Optimising Education: to encourage attendance of members at summer schools and teaching courses;
- Liaison: to encourage links with other relevant Societies to build a strong force on EU level.
The two societies’ mutual aspirations are complementary and fit well together.
EAN will include ILAE-CEA in its collaboration with other partners concerning epilepsy management, and both parties will keep each other informed on issues related to initiatives of mutual interest.
