Two events were organised by EBC for the 2017 Brain Awareness Week (BAW) 2017:
14 March 17: At the University Foundation Brussels – headquarters of EBC – a lunch debate was organised. The debate addressed “Expanding Brain Research in Europe: A societal need?”
EBC Executive Director Frédéric Destrebecq introduced and moderated the event, which involved a panel of three guest speakers, each addressing the subject from their own standpoint: Hilkka Kärkkäinen, President of Global Alliance of Mental Illness Advocacy Networks-Europe (GAMIAN)-Europe spoke about Research in Mental Health and the patient’s involvement, reminding us that the patients themselves are also experts; Alexander Schubert, Executive Director of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) spoke about the challenges to innovation in brain research.

16 March 17: At the European Parliament in Strasbourg still related to: ”Expanding Brain Research in Europe: A societal Need?”
The event was organised by FENS – Federation of European Neuroscience Societies.
The event at Strasbourg consisted of three presentations given by guest speakers: Monica DiLuca, Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Milano and Vice President of EBC,
Marion Leboyer, M.D., Ph.D. is currently Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Paris Est (UPEC) in France and Anne Little, President of The European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA)
and Executive Director of The International Bureau for Epilepsy.
