The VI Congress of Macedonian Neurologists took place in Ohrid, Macedonia, on 21st-24th September 2016.
The congress was organized by the University Clinic of Neurology, the League against Epilepsy, and the Macedonian Neurology Society. Dr. Igor Kuzmanovski, President of the Organizing Committee, and Prof. Anita Arsovska, President of the Scientific Committee, welcomed the 400 participants who attended the congress. Beside proving an update on stroke, multiple sclerosis, neuroimmunology, Parkinson’s disease and dementia, this year there was a special focus on epilepsy. Prof. Dr. Meir Bialer from Israel, held a lecture on the Interaction of antiepileptic drugs, and Prof. Dr. Imad Najm (USA) on focal cortical dysplasia. All sessions and workshops were very informative and well attended. Between them, a workshop in Doppler sonography (chaired by Prof. Dr. Vida Demarin from Croatia and Prof. Dr. Anita Arsovska), a plenary lecture in the field of Atypical Parkinsonism done by Prof. Vladimir Kostic from Serbia, a lecture of Dr. Robert Mikulik (Czech Republic) regarding the ESO-EAST project, Veronika Svobodova (Czech Republic) with a talk about the application of medical stimulation in stroke and Prof. Dr. Serefnur Ozturk (Turkey) about the thrombolytic treatment of stroke. There were also speakers from Italy (Prof. Angelo Ghezzi, who talked about and new therapies for MS) and from Greece (Prof. Ioannis Evdokimidis, who spoke about neuroimaging of memory circuits). This Congress was an excellent opportunity for exchanging ideas, expanding current knowledge and establishing further collaboration with colleagues in the field of neurology. All participants were satisfied with the overall scientific programme, the organization of the Congress, and the possibility to interact with colleagues, creating new friendships and professional collaborations.
