Elena Moro (EM): As incoming co-chair of the Scientific Panel “Neuro-oncology” can you briefly introduce yourself and your specific field of expertise to the Neuropenews readers.
Stefan Oberndorfer (SO): As a Neurologist, my special field of interest is clinical Neuro-oncology. Presently, I am working as a head of Department for Neurology at the Karl Landsteiner University Clinic of St Pölten in Austria. My main areas of clinical research are brain tumors, tumor associated epilepsy, palliative care in brain tumor patients, spinal metastases, neurotoxicity of anticancer treatment, paraneoplastic neurological syndromes and symptomatic treatment in neuro-oncology.
Other activities are, chair for the working committee for Neuro-oncology of the Austrian Society of Neurology (ÖGN), member of the executive board of Austrian neuro-oncological organization (SANO) and member of the scientific board of the European association for Neuro-oncology (EANO).
EM: Can you outline the strategic work plan you foresee for the Scientific Panel that you
co-chair?
SO: To facilitate cooperation between different European neuro-oncological centers and to cover the broad spectrum of clinical Neuro-oncology by means of educational activities within the EAN.
EM: What is the main “deliverable” that you want to achieve for the work the Scientific Panel will address during your term of office?
SO: The coordination of European national registries in the field of Neuro-oncology.
