Two esteemed Turkish colleagues, Prof. Nilda Turgut and Dr. Emel Ersöz passed away as a result of a tragic traffic accident during the 4th International Balkan Neurology and Neuroscience Congress in Tekirdağ on 11 October 2024. This devastating incident has shaken the neurology community, and their untimely passing is an immeasurable loss to both the scientific and medical worlds.
Prof. Nilda Turgut, the Head of the Neurology Department at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Faculty of Medicine, was a beacon of knowledge, mentorship, and inspiration for so many. As the head of the organising committee for the 4th International Balkan Neurology and Neuroscience Congress, her commitment to advancing neurology was evident, and she brought together minds from across Türkiye and the Balkans to foster collaboration and innovation. Her dedication to neurology extended beyond academia; her warmth, generosity, and leadership will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dr Emel Ersöz, a devoted neurologist at Tekirdağ City Hospital, was known not only for her clinical expertise but also for her compassionate approach to patient care. Her loss has left an indelible mark on her patients and colleagues.
We also hold in our thoughts Dr Aslı Aksoy Gündoğdu and Dr Levent Kabayel, who were also involved in the accident. We sincerely hope for their complete and swift recovery.
The European neurology community has lost two incredible professionals, whose memories will live on in the lives they touched and the advancements they helped bring to the field.
