The EAN cooperates with numerous Partner Societies and is excited to announce several joint sessions at their congresses in September and early October!
European Society of Cardiology Congress, 30 August– 2 September 2024, London, UK
During this Congress a Joint ESC/EAN Session on Heart-brain interactions: sex differences and impact on cognition is scheduled for Monday, 2 September 2024, at 11:00-12:00 featuring renowned international experts.
The session will discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms of brain-heart interactions and their important clinical implications (Takotsubo, stroke-heart syndrome, etc.) from the perspective of sex and gender, as well as mechanisms of cognitive decline and the development of dementia due to heart disease, considering the significant comorbidity between neurological and cardiological diseases.

15th European Epilepsy Congress, 7-11 September 2024, Rome, Italy
Be sure to participate in the EAN Symposium scheduled for Tuesday, 10 September 2024, at 15:00-16:30.
This time, the joint ILAE/EAN session has a focus on the role of EEG in differing clinical epileptological circumstances. Well known and experienced experts present and discuss recent scientific data concerning the diagnostic and prognostic value of EEG in autoimmune encephalitis and comatose patients. Furthermore, the question of a better diagnostic and predictive value of long-term EEG versus routine EEG after epilepsy surgery is discussed based on hitherto unpublished data. Finally, the decade of artificial intelligence has started all over the globe. What is its impact on the current and future procedure of EEG reading?
Please visit the ILAE congress website for further details on the joint session and the whole congress programme.
ECTRIMS 2024 – 40th Congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis, 18-20 September 2024, Copenhagen, Denmark
It is our pleasure to announce the ECTRIMS-EAN Session: Assessing treatment response in MS, scheduled on Friday, 20 September 2024, 10:30-12:30.
The joint ECTRIMS/EAN session, chaired by Dr Preziosa and Dr Rashid, will provide insights and updates on treatment response in multiple sclerosis (MS) from various perspectives. Dr Bovis will address methodological considerations in defining treatment response. Prof. De Stefano will discuss minimal versus no evidence of disease activity. Prof. Leppert will explore the role of biomarkers in monitoring treatment response. Dr Ruggieri will examine treatment response in low and high-efficacy drugs. Prof. Oreja-Guevara will focus on treatment responses in special populations, such as older adults and children. Finally, Prof. Montalban will present a report from the ECTRIMS Focused Workshop.
Further general information on the Joint Session can be found on the ECTRIMS congress website.
37th ECNP Congress, 21-24 September 2024, Milan, Italy
The newly established EAN Coordinating Panel on Functional Neurological Disorders co-developed a Joint Session scheduled for Monday, 23 September 2024, 13:55-14:40.
Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a common and disabling condition. It presents particular challenges in diagnosis and management as an intersecting set of skills are needed from neurologists, neurological therapies (neurophysiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy), psychiatrists and psychologists. There is growing evidence for best practice in positive rather than exclusionary diagnostic techniques, diagnostic explanation, triage of patients to manage heterogeneity and specific treatment approaches, backed up by a resurgence in research interest, pathophysiological models, randomised clinic trials and development of novel therapies.
In this panel discussion we will discuss the complexities, challenges and solutions to providing better diagnosis and management for people with FND, and how services can be developed to more effectively integrate neurological and psychiatric care.
Further general information can be found on the ECNP congress website.
27th Conference of the European Sleep Research Society, 24-27 September 2024, Seville, Spain
During the conference a Joint Symposium, scheduled for Tuesday, 26 September 2024, 13:30-15:00, has been organised in collaboration with the EAN Scientific Panel on Sleep-wake disorders.
All sleep specialists, neurologists and other healthcare professionals are invited to join a clinical cases-based symposium, where the audience will learn the features of sleep and neurological comorbidities and their management. The first speaker Evelina Pajediene will talk about the bidirectional relationship between sleep and stroke and how to manage the most common sleep-related comorbidities in cerebrovascular diseases. Amaia Muñoz-Lopetegi will explain how sleep is affected in autoimmune encephalitis, when Rolf Fronczek will present cases about sleep disturbances in different headache syndromes. Video-based polysomnography examples of sleep disorders in atypical parkinsonism syndromes such as Lewy body dementia, multiple system atrophy and others will be presented by Elena Antelmi.
Please visit the ESRS congress website for further general information.
27th Conference of the European Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics (ESNCH), 2-4 October 2024, Almería, Spain
We are pleased to inform that there is a Joint Session on “Neurosonology in the assessment of migraine and other headaches” scheduled on Friday, 4 October 2024, 08:00-13:30.
One of the highlights of the upcoming ESNCH conference will be a joint session with EAN. The overarching theme will be the use of neurosonological techniques in the assessment of headaches. In fact, as our understanding of the complex world of headaches evolves, diagnostic tools have fostered this knowledge and progressed in parallel. Technology has dramatically changed the way we use ultrasound in medical imaging, not only for vascular studies but also for parenchymal assessments. In this session, the most recent developments will be presented. Additionally, three selected abstracts on this topic will also be discussed.
