The Board of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) would like to express our deepest sympathy on behalf of all EAN members to those affected by the recent earthquake in Morocco. We are shocked by the devastation caused and the lives lost and destroyed due to this unspeakable tragedy.
We have reached out to the Moroccan Society of Neurology, to inform them that we will provide free 2024 EAN individual membership* for all neurologists in Morocco, which will automatically grant free access to our eLearning platform, EAN Campus, as well as enable free virtual registration to our EAN Annual Congress on 29 June – 2 July 2024.
It is our hope that sharing access to these resources can in some way support the work of our Moroccan colleagues in these incredibly challenging circumstances.
We will continue to discuss with our partners in the region any other means by which we may be able to support health professionals in managing and providing care to neurological patients in the affected areas.
As a contribution toward the ongoing relief efforts, the EAN will also be donating €5,000 to Doctors Without Borders, in hopes of extending support to the teams providing medical aid in the region.
In the meantime, the EAN strongly also encourages anyone wishing to make a personal contribution to relief efforts to make a direct donation to Médecins Sans Frontières, whose teams are already onsite, assessing the current medical priorities and coordinating efforts with local authorities.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by the earthquake and solidarity with all healthcare professionals, emergency services, and volunteers dealing with the aftermath.
Prof. Paul Boon
President of the European Academy of Neurology
