EAN VIRTUAL CONGRESS – Resident and Research Fellow Section (RRFS) National Representatives Network (NRN)

In 2016, the European Academy of Neurology’s Resident and Research Fellow Section (RRFS) started a new initiative called “EAN-RRFS National Representatives” to establish a network of junior national representatives within the RRFS. The fundamental motivation was to strengthen relationships among European countries, in order to facilitate the spread of information, and promote the exchange of experiences and professional growth.

For this reason, two successful RRFS joint workshop meetings have taken place: the first one with the Swiss Association of Young Neurologists (SAYN) in Zurich, Switzerland, in March 2018, and the second one with the Italian Association of Young Neurologists (SIgN) in Rome, Italy, in March 2019. These events allowed junior national representatives to come together and discuss topics relevant to residents and research fellows across Europe. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the third one took place remotely in November 2020. At this occasion, we also invited the Committee representative to increase connections and knowledge between all the representatives.

During the 7th EAN virtual conference we had a National & Committee representative meeting and, unfortunately, we also decided to hold the fourth joint workshop meeting virtually due to the ongoing circumstances. Nevertheless, we cannot wait for the opportunity to meet each other safely again in person in the near future.

So far, many projects have been developed, such as the recently launched mentorship programme, and many scientific publications have been written; the most recent of which pointed out the modifications that have occurred in neurology training and research during the pandemic and the neurology trainee’s perspective on endovascular therapy.

Currently, there are EAN-RRFS national representatives from 33 countries across Europe, as shown in table 1 and figure 1.
