Prof. Gunther Deuschl’s, EAN Past-President, outstanding contribution to the movement disorders field was awarded during the 2019 AAN Congress in Philadelphia (PA), on May 6. Prof. Carolyne Tanner briefly introduced Prof. Deuschl, highlighting the main accomplishments that he has achieved during his career, particularly his contribution in the deep brain stimulation (DBS) field.
Prof. Deuschl gave his lecture on DBS therapy in Parkinson’s disease (PD), ‘Fighting Parkinson’s disease with DBS’. He discussed about the effects of subthalamic nucleus DBS in PD, especially concerning the EARLYSTIM study. He also presented new data regarding behavior, speech and gait in the long-term follow-up of the EARLYSTIM cohort.
This is a very important award, and we all congratulate with Prof Deuschl for this important international recognition.
