A panel on Higher Cortical Functions has already been founded in 2008 within the European Neurological Society ENS firstly being represented as a workshop on the ENS Congress at Nice 2008 on Frontal lobe function Hans Kornhuber, Bruno Dubois, Paul Burgess. Further workshops were organized at the ENS Congress 2009 in Milano on ‘Mirror neurons.’ (Giacomo Rizzolatti, Georg Goldenberg Akio Ikeda), ENS congress 2010 Berlin ‘Conscious & unconscious agendas in the brain’ (Daniel Dennett, Adrian Owen). ENS Congress 2011 at Lisbon ‘Face recognition’ Theodor Landis, Beatrice de Gelder), ENS Congress 2013 in Barcelona ‘Processing of music in the brain’ Isabelle Peretz, Roland Beisteiner, Eckart Altenmueller. 1st EAN Congress 2015 Berlin ‘Human Spatial Orientation’ Alain Berthoz, Adolpho Bronstein, Thomas Brandt. 2nd EAN Congress 2016 Copenhagen ‘New concepts on language processing in the brain’ Cornelius Weiller, Thomas Bak, Jean-Francois Demonet. 3rd EAN Congress 2017 Amsterdam FW ‘Neurobiological & Clininical Aspects of memory consolidation’ Jan Born, Stefano Cappa, Pierre Maquet, Thorsten Bartsch. 4th EAN Congress 2018 Lisbon. FW ‘Lost in Space – Clinical & neurobiological aspects of topographagnosia’ Wolfgang Heide, Masud Husain, Jan Laczo
The panel deals with higher cortical functions such as aphasia, alexia, agraphia, apraxia, agnosia, acalculia, etc. without the initial “a” – the alpha privativum – it is speech, reading, writing, praxia, gnosis (recognizing) calculation, etc.
