Vincenzo Silani and Albert Ludolph welcomed the members. It was emphasized that the Collaboration with the ALS/FTD Panel with the European ALS Group and the WFN Research Group on ALS/MND is excellent. The EAN Panel is preparing guidelines for ALS under the leadership of Prof. Philip van Damme (Leuven). He attended the GRADE training course in Vienna; the contents of a training will be distributed in a personal manner to make the colleagues familiar with the GRADE.
The Panel welcomes the success rate of the application for the EAN meeting in Lisbon. For Oslo, we suggested the overarching theme “Interdisciplinary Care and Therapeutics” which we consider also extremely important for ALS. Also preliminary suggestions were made for teaching courses, focused workshops and symposia.
The Goals for Europe are among others the harmonization of Epidemiological Registers in Europe, success is obvious in Germany, Norway and Sweden. We also considered the theme of transition of care from child to adulthood extremely important; the best example is SMA. Prof. Kevin Talbot (Oxford) is responsible for this.
The next Panel Meetings will be at the MNDA in Boston December 2017 and in Lisbon 2018 at the next EAN.
