Prof. Günther Deuschl, President of the EAN and Prof. Wolfgang Wick, President of EANO are pleased to announce that:
The EAN Joined EANO– European Association of Neuro-Oncology to promote optimal management of neuro-oncology. EANO is Europe’s multidisciplinary Neuro-Oncology organisation representing all medical and scientific disciplines involved in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tumours of the central nervous system (CNS). EANO is dedicated to promote advances in Neuro-Oncology through innovative research and concerted education and training. It enhances collaboration between all relevant disciplines – Neuro-Oncology, Neurosurgery, Neuropathology, Neuroradiology, and Radiation Oncology as well as Nursing – and aims at bridging science, knowledge and practice gaps in the management of CNS malignancies.
This collaboration aims at enhancing education as well as scientific endeavors, and building the critical mass of expertise to achieve excellence in neuro-oncology within clinical neurology in Europe. Jointly, the two organizations will be able to lobby more effectively for the recognition of neuro-oncology, and for strengthening funding for research in Europe.
To achieve these goals the two societies have agreed to collaborate on the following specific activities:
- Scientific Conferences: to establish joint sessions at each other’s annual meetings and other relevant conferences;
- Best Practice Guidelines: to nominate representatives for each other’s guidelines modules;
- Optimising Education: to encourage attendance of members at summer schools and teaching courses;
- Liaison: to encourage links with other relevant Societies building a strong force at EU level.
The two societies’ mutual aspirations are complementary and fit well together.
