On 26 November the Science and Technology Options Assessment (STOA) committee of the European Parliament (EP) organised a meeting entitled:
UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN BRAIN – A new era of big neuroscience
Understanding the human brain remains one of the greatest scientific challenges of our century. New equipment and tools for visualising and recording neurons and neural circuits are enabling deeper insight into how the human brain processes information and guides behaviour.
- The EU’s Human Brain Project (HBP) Flagship – Kathrin Amunts, Chair of the “Human Brain” project
- The U.S. BRAIN (Brain Research though Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies) Initiative – Walter Koroshetz, Co-chair of the NIH US Brain Initiative
- The Japan’s Brain Mapping by Integrated Neurotechnologies for Disease Studies (Brain/MINDS) Project – Tetsuo Yamamori, Vice project leader of the Japan’s Brain mapping project
During the STOA workshop, key leading representatives presented an overview of the three initiatives, their status, achievements, opportunities for cooperation, and future plans.
The workshop included a panel discussion where panelists will discuss opportunities for international collaboration in neuroscience research and the benefits that such research will bring to individual citizens and society as a whole.
