Dr. Hannah Cock, Chair of the EAN Education Committee and Prof. Jan Kuks, chair of the EAN Quality Assurance sub-Committee, co-chaired a session on “How to …Question-writing workshop”.
To write questions aimed to evaluate the knowledge of students might be an apparently simple activity. In fact, it is a complex and demanding task that can be a challenge for teachers and educators.
In this very practical session, the attendees were guided through the difficulties in preparing questions. Specific examples of questions were presented, followed by a fruitful discussion concerning how to write the clearest and the most adequate questions. During this very interactive session, Prof. Kuks and Dr. Cock gave very useful tips to avoid the most common mistakes made by teachers. Prof. Kuks illustrated the whole process to write the questions: how to write the background, how to produce the questions and the best way to present the answers. Different types of questions were presented. The objective evaluation of quality of questions was also discussed.
I look forward to having more similar practical sessions in future meetings of the EAN.
