First of all, I want to thank EAN for unique opportunity to visit the Headache Clinic at the department of Neurology at the Evangelical Hospital in Unna, Germany.
The Department of Neurology consists of 74 beds, including a stroke unit, post-stroke department, subdivision for epilepsy and neurogeriatrics.
Prof. Katsarava, who is the chief of the Department and Professor of Neurology at the University of Essen and the 2nd vice president of the European Headache Federation, leads an outpatient clinic for headache with approximately 300 patients per year.
I received an opportunity to learn about the diagnosis and treatment of primary headaches, which I will definitely use in my home country, in Georgia.
The scientific part of my visit focused on a project “Quality of care in the Headache Clinic”. This European benchmarks study assesses the quality of care in 14 European tertiary headache clinics. We studied about 50 consecutive headache patients, reviewed the charts and interviewed medical and non-medical staff. The results will be analyzed.
During my visit in Germany I attended different conferences, met a lot of colleagues from different countries and had an interesting conversation with them.
I lived in Unna, a little city near Dortmund, but I also visited other cities, such as Köln, Düsseldorf, Dortmund. It was nice.
Finally I would like to thank Prof. Katsarava and the staff of the department. My visit was a very exciting experience.
