The Patient Day – organised in cooperation with the Turkisch Neurological Society, EFNS/ ENS and EFNA
in Hamidiye Hall at the ICC, Saturday, 2014-05-31 8.30-10.30
The aspects of the relationship between patients and physicians are changing due to the knowledge age. Internet and media is full of data and provide mostly unreliable information. How can patients find out what to believe and what can we do to find out their needs? The problem may only be solved with correct communication. This session aims to point out the needs of patients and toimprove the patient-doctor communication. The main topics will be dealing with MS and stroke. The patient society representatives will have the opportunity to describe their needs to have a better medical care and quality of life and the neurologists will have the opportunity to enlighten the recent developments. Thus, physicians and patients will find ways to communicate and work together.
A short video will give an idea of the life of a patient who has successfully overcome a neurological disease.

Communicating effectively with those affected by brain disorders can be challenging. Certain brain disorders restrict the ability of the patient to communicate, listen and absorb information. This session will take the format of an interactive workshop focussing on how the neurologist can overcome the obstacles to effective communication during consultation, and will include role-plays and the presentation of disease specific case-studies from both the physician and patient perspective. Attendees should leave this session with a greater understanding of the needs of patients and the skills required to communicate and engage in an active and effective manner.
