In a study using a mouse model of acquired fear memories, Li-Huei Tsai and collaborators modified the mouse epigenome, using a drug that inhibits the enzymes histone deacetylases (HDACs). This drug switches off genes by removing acetyl groups from histones, and in animals it induces unlearning of the fear memory. Here you can read the easy version of the story.
