The call for nominations of candidates for the EAN Board was sent in November 2013 and the application portal was open until 14 February 2014. Following a thorough review of all applications by the Election Organising Committee (EOC), a preliminary vote was made for such positions where more than 5 applications had been received. This vote was closed on 9 March 2014. The Election Organising Committee met thereafter and discussed the further practicalities for the first General Assembly and the election of board members in particular.

This meeting will take place on Tuesday, 03 June 2014, starting at 10:30 h at the Congress centre of the Joint Congress of European Neurology. The 90 EAN Delegates will then be endorsing the EAN bylaws and elect the EAN board officers.

The EOC co-chairs will open the voting by showing the list of candidates.
The election of the board members will take place, chaired by the EOC co-chairs. The list of all candidates will be shown and the co-chairs will explain the voting system. They will request that delegates take into account geographical, gender and specialty spread when casting their votes.
The candidates for president will each have a maximum of 5 minutes to present their candidacy (no slides will be allowed), and the sequence of these presentations will be decided at the time of the election by lot (by the EOC co-chairs). The time frame of the 3 presentations has to be strictly kept.
After each vote, the number of votes for each person will be shown on a screen. If an overall majority is not achieved in the first round, a second vote will be undertaken including only the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round.
The elected President will be invited to address the GA when all the posts have been allocated.
The General Assembly can be observed by all interested Congress participants in a separate hall in which this will be simultaneously webcasted.
Further details on the General Assembly, board election, etc. will be provided in the next issue of Neuropenews.
