The ENS 2013 annual meeting took place in Barcelona, Spain, 8–11 June 2013. Over 3,600 participants from 92 countries attended the 23rd annual meeting of the ENS. This represents the highest attendance at an ENS meeting to date.
The goal of the ENS, to advance teaching in neurological sciences in Europe with teaching courses and workshops at the annual meetings, is as prominent as ever. A total of 22 teaching courses were offered and all were well attended. In total 958 abstracts were submitted for presentation, 20% were rejected. Of the accepted abstracts, 20% were delivered as oral presentations and 80% were presented as posters. Nearly all of the posters were additionally offered as E-Posters and can be viewed with a delegate login on the congress homepage. From the very first sessions until the last day people poured in to take part in the high quality scientific programme.
In recognition of the final ENS annual meeting past Presidents of the society were recognised at the Presidential Symposium for their efforts in building the society since 1986. As well, Prof. Claudio Bassetti was inaugurated as ENS President during the Presidential Symposium.
The ENS annual meeting once again hosted an industry exhibition. The contributions of exhibitors as well as sponsors play an important role in the success of ENS meetings. The meeting offered a congenial atmosphere for participants to learn about and observe the latest developments in neurology as well as a unique evening programme for participants to continue networking and experience a sample of local culture. The welcome reception at Fira Gran Via kicked off the meeting. On Monday evening participants enjoyed the ENS Farewell Networking Event at Casa Battlò with local food and entertainment.
